Calico Jack's serves up tasty variety
Who’s serving up one of the best breakfasts on the Island? That would be the new Calico Jack’s at 1100 Padre Blvd, and you can get all your favorites until 1 p.m. seven days a week.
Prices range around $8 to $12 and include mouthwatering dishes like French toast, steak and eggs, omelettes, huevos rancheros, migas, chorizo, and my favorite, the Captain’s Breakfast: two eggs, two pancakes, two strips of bacon, a sausage patty, slice of ham, golden hashbrowns and your choice of bread. Yum!
Calico Jack’s is more than breakfast. Their menu is packed full of great lunch and dinner specials, and they offer wine, beer and $3 margaritas and pina coladas. What type of eats can you expect? A little bit of everything, from steaks and seafood to Mexican and good ol’ American comfort food.
Start your meal out right with a selection from their appetizer menu. I like the Fiesta nachos, but if you’re dining here for the first time get Jack’s sampler. It comes with Buffalo wings, cheese sticks, potato skins and onion rings for only $9.
Lunch is served daily from 11am to 4pm and includes big, juicy burgers cooked to order with a heaping side of fries, delicious sandwiches (like the all natural fried crab sandwich served with homemade tartar sauce) salads, and scrumptious seafood platters. I suggest the Three Amigos Combo Platter with grilled, fried or blackened shrimp, fish and oysters. It comes with fries and cole slaw, so come hungry! Lunch prices average around $9.
You’ll find more finned favorites on the dinner menu served from 4 to 9 nightly. Calico Jack’s has red snapper, Gulf shrimp and Mahi Mahi all for under $15. Ask for a side of Jack’s special sauce, it’s fabulous! And don’t forget to pair your Gulf shrimp with a juicy 14 ounce ribeye. For a leaner cut of meat, try the top sirloin. Steaks come cooked to order with your choice of dinner salad or soup, two sides and bread service. Steak prices range from $14 to $20.
Put the perfect final touch on any meal with a slice of German chocolate cake, coconut cream pie, cheesecake or apple pie a la mode. The little ones will love the hot fudge brownie, but by far my top recommendation is the bananas foster cake!
Calico Jack’s opens daily at 6 a.m. Stop in and see the friendly staff and General Manager John Daniel. He’s been greeting new guests and familiar faces with a smile since 2003. For more information call 956-761-9574.
