Hispanic Heritage theme of South Texas student art contest

Student artists throughout the Rio Grande Valley have an opportunity to compete in an art contest to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.
Hispanic Heritage Month is Sept. 15 through Oct. 15 and the art contest is sponsored by the McAllen Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and is open to junior and senior high school students.
In past years, the contest has attracted hundreds of art works from Laredo to Brownsville.
Students must draw a rendition of how they interpret “Mi Cultura,” or My Culture, using any art medium of their choice.
A panel of professional art judges will review the submissions and judge in categories of beginning and advanced art students. Prizes will be give for Best in Show, as well as first, second and third places.
Entries will be judged on creativity and talent, with the winning work put on display in Washington, D.C. at the offices of South Texas Congressmen Ruben Hinojosa and Henry Cuellar.
The deadline for entries is Thursday, Oct. 7. For more information call the McAllen Hispanic Chamber of Commerce at 956-928-0060.
