Laguna Madre Art League Show and Sale

Art, art and more art. That’s what you’ll find this Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at the South Padre Island Convention Centre when the Laguna Madre Art League sponsors their annual show in the south corridor.

No matter what your tastes, you’ll find something at this exhibit with pieces ranging from watercolors and oil paintings to photography, sculpture, woodworking and jewelry.

The LMAL is a non-profit organization specifically created to promote interest, appreciation, support and skill of the visual arts.

Award-winning artists like Marne Law will be present to help art enthusiasts find the perfect piece. Law is a recipient of the Octavia Arneson Award from the Brownsville Museum of Art’s International Show. She paints and sketches a wide variety of subjects.

“I would be bored if I just painted one subject over and over,” Law said. “I do paint a lot of local art, the lighthouse, causeway bridge, beach scenes, pelicans, spoonbills, egrets, and shrimp boats. But I also love to paint whatever I stumble on.  I don’t just paint what I think will sell. I paint what inspires me.  I have painted cows, chickens, pigs, buffalo and frogs…just because.”

Law enjoys using watercolors, among other mediums, because its transparency allows her to capture sunlight in her paintings. Like many of the artists that will be present, she creates custom commission work for clients, including four 32 feet long panels that hang in the atriums of Sea Vista Condominiums.

“It took me two months to paint them,” she said.

Come enjoy many more artists like Law at this free event sponsored by the El Paseo Arts Foundation. Doors open at 10 a.m.  Then take a stroll through Market Days, a crafts and jewelry trade show that will be in the main hall of the convention center. Cost for Market Days is $1.
