The Fishing Connection:

The Grandes are hungry

The grandes are returning to the bay to start their yearly spawn.
Reports from anglers have reassured me the big ones are breaking lines frequently.
On Gaswell flats I had three Anglers that broke off four or more big Reds over the weekend.
Others reported they caught some 30-inch plus Trout fishing along the spoil islands.
The big fish each year come to the bay to spawn and lay eggs for the next generation of fish and replenish the population.
The grandes are hungry and will hit about anything used as bait now.
Lures and live or frozen bait are taking fish to the dock.
South of Cullen’s house small schools of Reds are feeding as well as at Three Islands, Rattle Snake Bay, South Bay, Airport Cove and Holly Beach.
Wade fishermen are really having a field day working the chest deep waters and taking Big Reds and Trout.
South Bay is producing more Snook and some really big ones so be ready for the fight.
Have fun and be safe on the water.
With school returning there will be less traffic on the bay now so the fishing should greatly improve!
