Tecate Texas Boxing Tour
Big time boxing is back in the Rio Grande Valley on Saturday when the McAllen Convention Center hosts the inaugural Tecate Texas Boxing Tour event.
World contenders Brandon Rios and Jorge Luis Teron will battle in the main event on the Top Rank Live card that will also feature top Texas prospects Roberto Marroquin, Omar Henry, Jerry Belmontes and the Valley’s Eric Molina. Top Rank Live is a nationally televised series on Fox Sports Net and Fox Sports en Espanol.
The seven-bout event will begin at 7 p.m. on Feb. 6. It will be the first of a 10-event series throughout Texas during 2010, sponsored by Cerveza Tecate.
Tickets are priced at $20 & $30 for reserved seating. VIP Gold Tables for ten are $750 and VIP Silver Tables are $500. Tickets are available online at www.ez-tixx.com, charge by phone by calling 1-877-993-8499 or at any of the following ticket outlets: Wireless Toyz, Melhart Music Center, Lionel’s Western Wear, and Bullrider Western Wear.
The undefeated Rios (23-0, Oxnard, California), ranked No. 9 in the World (WBA) as a Jr. Lightweight, will headline the event in a 12-round title fight against No. 12 World ranked lightweight (WBA), Jorge Luis Teron (23-1, Bronx, New York).
Rios, a former Olympian, and Teron will battle it out for the North American Lightweight Championship.
Molina (12-1, Lyford) will be matched-up in an 8-round cruiserweight bout for the Tecate Texas Title. Marroquin (11-0, Dallas) and Belmontes (10-0, Corpus Christi) were both finalist in the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials and former U.S. National Amateur champions. Both will fight 8-round bouts. Henry (7-0, Houston), is slated for a 6-round light middleweight contest.
According to Tecate Texas Boxing Tour coordinator, Lester Bedford, the card is great way to kick off the new series.
“This is what the Tecate Texas Boxing Tour is about — a quality card from top to bottom, with some of the best young fighters in the world.” said Bedford, “There has been a void recently of consistent, quality events in Texas and this series of events is a huge shot in the arm for boxing in the state.”
