Project Insight and Alpha Lambda Delta students of the University of Texas-Pan American will sponsor a book fair on Saturday, Sept. 4 to collect funds to purchase books for the Penitas Public Library.
The fair will be at Barnes & Noble located at Palms Crossing in McAllen. Visitors are asked to bring used books or to donate to the project. Books should be published after 1995.
Last year, UTPA student, George Galindo of Raymondville, visited the Penitas Public Library as a class assignment to hear a local author speak. He was taken back by the humble library which lacked enough books to classify itself as a member of the Hidalgo County Library system.
Penitas Public Library needs 2,500 books to be a part of the county system. At this point they are half way to their goal.
The book fair will begin at 9 a.m. There will be stories read to the children by costumed UTPA students. Project Insight board members will offer creative journaling activities throughout the day, and there will be a special appearance by UTPA mascot “Bucky.” You can contact Dr. Marsha Nelson at mmgamel@hiline.net or 956.802.9993 to receive a tax deduction letter from Project Insight for your donations.
