Texas Street Festival features Patrice Pike

The second annual Texas Street Festival will fill downtown Mercedes this weekend with music and family fun.
Sponsored by the Mercedes Chamber of Commerce, the free festival will be Saturday, Sept. 4 from a.m. to midnight.
Organizers said the day will feature rides and contests for the kids, plenty of food, musical performances, wine tasting, video games, R/C NASCAR Track, car show, art exhibit and an outdoor film plus many other attractions.
This year’s musical acts will include one of the hottest rising stars in rock, Patrice Pike. Hailing out of Austin, Pike was voted SXSW 2007: Musician of the Year and took top honors for Song of the Year, Best Rock Band, and Best Female Vocalist. She was praised in Rolling Stone Magazine: “She’s Tina Turner, Bessie Smith, Janis Joplin, and Robert Plant all rolled up into a tiny but explosive package.”
Also on the bill and playing its second Texas Street Festival, is Mexico’s very own Pilaseca; a funk-rock-hiphop outfit who will mesmerize audiences with their blend of Spanish and English funk.
Headlining the Tejano side is La Tropa F who is sure to ignite the audience with their upbeat classics like “Juan Sabor.”
Co-headlining the Texas Street Festival are DJ Kane, Chris Perez the Kumbia Kings; performing all your favorite cumbia hits like “No Tengo Dinero”, “Shhh”, “Azucar” and many more.  Also on the bill is the Queen City’s very own Tejano queen, Elida Reyna.  Others performing that day include Cedar Creek, Marshall Law, Llueve and many other acts.
"Last year’s attendance numbered 12,000 people from throughout the Rio Grande Valley and Mexico. We are definitely expecting a larger crowd this year. This year we are really excited about some of the new entertainment that we have added to appeal to our younger attendees", Mercedes Chamber President Debbie Garza said.
