Two Harlingen men have been sentenced to prison for a Feb. 4 stabbing of a Harlingen man.
Juan Manuel Hinojosa, 35, and Rodolfo Orozco Duran, 25, of Harlingen, were each sentenced by a jury to 40 years in state prison for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Each was also fined $10,000, Cameron County District Attorney Armando Villalobos said Friday.
Assistant District Attorneys Julie Allen and Mario Cisneros prosecuted the case in the 103rd state District Court, the DA said.
After a week-long jury trial, both defendants were convicted on Wednesday.
“I would like to thank this jury for their courage and conviction,” Chief First Assistant District Attorney Charles E. Mattingly Jr. said. “They sent a clear message that violent individuals like these defendants will not be tolerated in our neighborhoods.”
On Feb. 4, at about 10 p.m., Hinojosa and Orozco brutally assaulted David Galvan, 22, with a knife or other sharp object outside his home, Harlingen police told the DA’s office.
The victim was stabbed four times during the aggravated assault, the DA’s office said in a statement.
The defendants were arrested the following day after being identified through a photo line-up, the DA’s office said.
Hinojosa and Orozco were indicted by a Cameron County grand jury on April 28.
