No ordinary breed for Hollywood elite
Ok so most of you have probably heard of a Golden Retriever, German Shepherd or Chihuhua. But have you ever heard of a Labradoodle? How ‘bout a Schnoodle?
No? Well these are just some of the latest “designer dogs”, or hybrids, being created by breeders. The trend seems to have started, unsurprsingly, with celebrities, who weren’t content with any average breed, so they had breeders create new ones.
Jake Gyllenhaal was one of the first stars to premier his hybrid, a Puggle named Boo Radley. Puggles are a cross between Beagles and Pugs. They come out the size of a Beagle, but have the color of a Pug and won’t bray all night like Beagles can.
Natalie Portman is companion to a Schnoodle aptly named Noodles. Schnoodles are a Schnauzer/Poodle mix. Many breeds are being crossed with Poodles because they shed less and while its not true they’re hypoallergenic, they do cause less of a reaction in people who suffer from pet allergies.
Other famous Poodle mixes include a Labradoodle (Labrador/Poodle) mix bought for Jennifer Aniston by her then husband Brad Pitt. Former supermodel Christie Brinkley owns one named Maple Sugar.
Perez Hilton just welcomed home a Goldendoodle named Teddy. That would be Golden Retriever/Poodle mix.
But by far the most popular designer dog of the moment in Hollywood is the Maltipoo, a cross between a Maltese and a Poodle.
Who all has one? How ‘bout Ellen Degeneres, Ashley Tisdale, Jessica Simpson, Michele Kwan, Miley Cyrus, Carmen Electra, Vanessa Hudgens and Rihanna.
Ok, it may be a fleeting trend. But these guys are pretty cute, don’t you think?
