Temperature Risin' At Heat Wave
Custom Car and Truck Show
Texas Heat Wave’s Spring Break Jam Custom Car & Truck Show has become an annual crowd pleaser on South Padre Island. Some of the hottest cars and trucks in the Valley pack the South Padre Island Convention Centre competing in over 150 categories for cash prizes, bragging rights, and trophies.
"We like to say if it has wheels, you can enter it," says owner David MacDonald. There are awards for best graphics, best engine, best import, and best truck, to name a few. Every type of vehicle can be seen at the show from tricked out Volkswagen Beetles and small passenger cars to motorcycles and monster trucks.
The coveted awards are the 13 best of show trophies for the various categories and the prized overall best of show which only two contestants will walk away, one for best car and one for best sound. Overall best of show winners also receive $500 in prize money, but MacDonald says that's not what motivates the competitors.
"The trophies are nice, but the bragging rights are really what they want," he says.
Of all his shows, MacDonald says the Spring Break Jam on South Padre Island is his favorite.
"The whole town gets involved in this," says MacDonald, "The mayor, city manager, police, people at the convention center, everyone else involved, they're just the best people I've ever worked with in my 20 years of doing this. The Island treats us really well. They appreciate what we're doing here."
Heat Wave Inc. also produces shows in San Antonio, Houston, Austin, Corpus Christi and Dallas.
Last year thousands of guests attended, enjoying more than just hot cars. There are burn out competitions, hydraulics competitions, car audio competitions, live entertainment, food vendors, exhibit booths, and much more.
More than 100 sponsors and vendors will be on site selling and displaying their aftermarket products, equipment, sound systems and other auto related items.
Participants will have the opportunity to be noticed by many of the top national, auto related magazines in the country.
This show has become one of the largest and most attended in Texas and it’s been wowing Island visitors since 1998. It takes place Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Spectators tickets can be purchased at the door the day of the event. Visit www.heatwaveinc.com for more information.
