Press release from the City of South Padre Island:
Tropical Storm Hermine is still moving toward the area at 14 mph. The National Weather Service says more rain bands should begin between 5-6 p.m. Steady rain will begin around 9 p.m. The National Weather Service feels the maximum winds on South Padre Island may hit 50 mph later tonight.
Landfall should be around midnight about 60 miles south of Brownsville.
The heaviest rain should occur between 9 p.m. this evening and 3 a.m. Tuesday morning. We can expect 4-6 inches of rain in the South Padre Island area.
The National Weather Service feels conditions will continue to improve after daybreak Tuesday.
The City of South Padre Island has removed trash barrels from the beach. Residents and businesses should secure any outside objects that could become projectiles in higher winds.
