Patrice Pike, Pilaseca, La Tropa F and Chris Perez and the Kumbia Kings will play at Mercedes’ Texas Street Festival during Labor Day weekend.
Many other bands will also perform, including DJ Kane, Elida Reyna, Cedar Creek, Marshall Law and Llueve.
The Texas Street Festival, now in its second year, begins at noon Saturday, Sept. 4, and ends at midnight. The party happens along Texas Avenue in historic Downtown Mercedes. Admission is free.
Other attractions include rides, children’s contests, food, wine tasting, video games, radio control NASCAR track, car show and art exhibits.
Patrice Pike will headline the musical side of the event. She’s an Austin-based musician, who has been praised by Rolling Stone magazine. Pilaseca is a Mexican band that plays a unique mixture of funk, rock and hip hop. They sing in both Spanish and English.
Chris Perez and the Kumbia Kings will play classics such as “No Tengo Dinero,” “Shh” and “Azucar.” La Tropa F will headline the show for tejano fans.
Debbie Garza, president of the Mercedes Chamber of Commerce, said organizers hope to build on last year’s success.
“Last year’s attendance numbered 12,000 people from throughout the Rio Grande Valley and Mexico,” Garza said. “We are definitely expecting a larger crowd this year. This year we are really excited about some of the new entertainment that we have added to appeal to our younger attendees.”
