Volunteers are invited to help clean up Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge along the popular Bayside Wildlife Drive this weekend.
The cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 28 at 9 a.m. to noon, with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the amphitheater next to the visitors center. Park entrance fees will be waived for all cleanup participants.
Children and students under 18 must be accompanies by a parent or adult/teacher. Participants need to bring their own water bottles, sun screen, hats, gloves, bug spray, etc. Water will be provided by the refuge. Long pants and closed-toe shoes are required due to high grass and vegetation.
The refuge is located 14 miles east of Rio Hondo on FM 106. For more information call the Valley Proud Environmental Council at 956-412-8004. The clean up is sponsored by the Council, Friends of Laguna Atascosa and the Valley Sportsmen Club.
