HARLINGEN - Hay bales, pumpkins and plenty of sweet homemade treats will be the backdrop for Calvary Christian's Fall Festival on Saturday.
The fund-raiser will benefit the school's 400 students in grades pre-kindergarten to eight, Glenda Garza Ledesma, Parent, Teacher, Student Association board member, said.
"Every penny raised goes to improving the school," Garza Ledesma said. "We want our school to be the best it can be and try to improve the future for our children."
Garza Ledesma said only tuition, donations and fund-raisers pay for the private school.
Last year the school raised about $15,000 during the fall festival, she added.
Previous fall festivals have helped the school build water fountains and install roofing over outdoor corridors, Garza Ledesma said.
This year the festival will be bigger than other years, she said, because there are more activities planned and more auction items have been donated to the school.
One of the new events this year will be an Xbox Madden NFL video game challenge.
There will also be other traditional fall festival activities such as live music, a cakewalk, auctions, bouncers, basketball and football.
The school hopes this event will draw the community so people can learn what Calvary is all about, Garza Ledesma said.
"We're a humble school but our students are very talented and very bright," she said. "Ideally we'd like (the fall festival) to be like an old-fashioned fair where everyone in the community comes to support our children, who are the future."
