Summer Day Mercado

More than 30 vendors will line up their wares Saturday on South Padre Island for a Summer Day's Mercado benefiting Sea Turtle Inc.

The marketplace will be set up at Laguna Boulevard and Ling Street from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Vendors will include food booths, jewelry, art, clothing, face painting and more.

The mission of Sea Turtle Inc., a nonprofit organization, is to rescue, rehabilitate, and release injured sea turtles, educate the public, and assist with conservation efforts for all marine turtle species.

Sea Turtle Inc. is also involved with the monitoring of turtle nests, collecting eggs and releasing hatchlings. Last weekend the first release of 297 hatchlings took place on the Island.

More nests are expected to emerge soon. Anyone interested in attended a turtle release can call Sea Turtle Inc. at 956-761-4511 after 9 p.m., when the voicemail is updated with the latest information on the releases.

Sea Turtle Inc. is located at 6617 Padre Blvd. near the South Padre Island Convention Centre and is open to the public Tuesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
