Volunteers from Sea Turtle Inc. find one of the many Kemp’s ridley nests found on South Padre Island as the 2008 turtle nesting season begins. The first nest was found on April 12 and this is the sixth nest found so far this year. The nest contained 89 eggs. The eggs are carefully transported to a protected natural corral where they will remain for the 54 days of maturation. The eggs are then taken back to the exact GPS location for the hatchlings to be released.
